Katana Judo Club Chester was opened in September 2007 by a group of like-minded Judoka who wanted somewhere to train with a friendly atmosphere.
The club's Main coach is currently Marc Chatterton, 4th DAN, who has over 20 years experience of Judo, and has taught Judo for much of that. He is a Senior Coach with the BJA. We also have a number of other coaches who help out on a regular basis.
None of our coaches are paid for their work, and they do so for the love of the sport, and the enjoyment it brings them.
The club currently has over 30 members, both men and women, ranging from Juniors at 8 years old, up to Seniors over 50 years old.
Beginners are always welcome, of any age or gender. All that is required is tracksuit bottoms, a long-sleeve top and a willingness to learn. Once you get a taste of Judo, you can get your own Judo Suit, and our members can help you locate a good supplier. Beginners are always coached seperately for their first few sessions to allow them to break into the sport easily.
We charge a mat fee of £3.00 for Juniors and £3.00 for Seniors per Session.
Katana Judo club is a member of the British Judo Association and is fully insured.
If you would like to know more about the club (or would like to see us in action!), don't hesitate to come visit us at one of our sessions, where one of our members would be happy to assist you.
On September 8th 2007, Katana Judo Club Chester opened it's doors to students. This was a great day for Judo in chester, and especially for all the hard work that everyone involved with the setup of the club had put in in the previous 6 months.
The founders, in a bid to create a friendly environment in which to train and learn, decided to open their own club, with nothing but the idea and the will to do it. Along with some help from the British Judo Association, we have made a success of the opening of the club.
Our first 3 years have been successful with our numbers steadily increasing, and our facilities improving too. After starting with borrowed mats, we have managed to secure our own mat area and a regular dojo to train in. Not only that but we find ourselves in a good position to improve on our facilities this year, with the next goal being to secure some crash mats to help us demonstrate and practice some of the bigger throws.
To all the Parents, BJA members and other members of the club who have supported us we offer a big thank you for all your support and help through this year and hope to have an even better year this coming year!
